Participation in this project represented a very enriching learning experience, as it allowed for an understanding of the WordPress ecosystem’s functionality from its most basic aspects to making real contributions to the community. During the process, I learned about the history and purpose of WordPress, its usage policies, the community guidelines, and the use of communication tools like Slack to interact with other contributors.
I also participated in an introductory course on creating a website or blog in WordPress, where I learned to make the basic site configurations and publish content. As part of the project, I developed eight posts on my blog, in which I documented my progress, the activities carried out, and the learnings obtained during my participation in the translation area.
In the area of Polyglots, my experience allowed me to understand the software localization process and the importance of making accurate translations, respecting the context, terminology, and technical elements present in the text strings. Thanks to this, I managed to complete a total of 175 translations for WooCommerce, surpassing the initial target set.
If I had the opportunity to improve any aspect of the process, I would consider it important to reduce the response time for the review and approval of translations. Having quicker feedback would allow for the timely identification of possible errors, corrections, and the assurance that contributions meet the community’s quality standards.
As next steps, I would like to get involved in more projects within the WordPress ecosystem and participate in different areas of contribution, with the aim of continuing to learn, acquiring new skills, and contributing more actively to the open-source software community.
